The new 124-unit condo development by PN Hoffman, the Alta condos are located one block south of Thomas Circle in the business district. Parking is an additional $40k. Delivery began October 2006. The building keeps with PN Hoffman standard of minimalist finishing and exposed concrete, aiming for that urban loft feel in a new building: open spaces, with unit sizes necessarily much smaller than conventional lofts. The Alta was the first (of many, we hope) LEED-certified (i.e. green, per the USGBC) new condo in Washington DC. The modern facade, designed by Cunningham Quill Architects, is dominated by floor-to-ceiling glass windows that will allow light to filter through the open spaces; the interior will incorporate recycled material, and the condo has a spacious green rooftop with great views. Much better than the surface parking lot it replaced.
